SYNOPSIS (ENGLISH)
The drama opens in the 1960–1970's, with a group of criminals that were
brought to Jeju Island for manual labor as punishment under the harsh
supervision of troop leaders. Among this group is Kim Il-hwan (Jin Goo), an
unrefined, rebellious man with no family and no direction in life. With nothing
to lose, Il-hwan escapes from the rest of the infantry after combat with one of
the troop leaders, Lee Soo-chang (Ahn Nae-sang). The rest of the troop
eventually track him down and corner him on a cliff over Jeju's ocean. He jumps
off and drifts in the sea, and is later found by Ahn Mi-yeon (Im Jung-eun), a
"haenyo" (traditional free diver). Although she is afraid of this
rough stranger, she does not judge him for being a criminal and does not turn
him in to the authorities. Instead, Mi-yeon hides him in caves near the shore
of the island where she takes care of him. They fall in love; however, the
troops eventually find them believing that he had taken Mi-yeon hostage. After
Il-hwan is taken away, Mi-yeon discovers that she is pregnant. Their child, Kim
Jung-woo (Yeo Jin-goo) is raised in an orphanage after Mi-yeon passes away.
SINOPSIS (MALAY)
Drama ini dibuka pada tahun 1960-1970, dengan sekumpulan penjenayah
yang dibawa ke Pulau Jeju untuk kerja manual sebagai hukuman di bawah
pengawasan keras pemimpin pasukan. Di antara kumpulan ini adalah Kim Il-hwan
(Jin Goo), seorang lelaki yang tidak bermoral dan memberontak tanpa keluarga
dan tidak mempunyai hala tuju dalam hidup. Tanpa kehilangan, Il-hwan melarikan
diri dari sisa infanteri setelah bertempur dengan salah seorang pemimpin
pasukan, Lee Soo-chang (Ahn Nae-sang). Pasukan yang lain akhirnya mengejarnya
dan menudingnya di tebing di atas laut Jeju. Dia melompat dan hanyut di laut,
dan kemudian dijumpai oleh Ahn Mi-yeon (Im Jung-eun), "haenyo"
(penyelam bebas tradisional). Walaupun dia takut dengan orang asing yang kasar
ini, dia tidak menghakimi dia sebagai penjenayah dan tidak menyerahkannya
kepada pihak berkuasa. Sebagai gantinya, Mi-yeon menyembunyikannya di gua-gua
di dekat pantai pulau tempat dia menjaganya. Mereka jatuh cinta; namun, pasukan
akhirnya mendapati mereka mempercayai bahawa dia telah mengambil tebusan
Mi-yeon. Setelah Il-hwan dibawa pergi, Mi-yeon mendapati bahawa dia hamil. Anak
mereka, Kim Jung-woo (Yeo Jin-goo) dibesarkan di rumah anak yatim setelah
Mi-yeon meninggal dunia.
